I was thinking today how many times a day I make excuses to not do what needs to be done. Be it house work, writing my blogs, sending a note, praying or even reading the Word of God. Have you ever made any of these statements?
- I’m too tired
- I’m not good enough
- It’s too hard
- I’m to old
- I’m scared
- Someone else can do it
- There’s not enough hours in the day
- I’ll do it tomorrow
Excuses have a way of becoming big distractions. Webster’s dictionary defines excuses as an attempt to lessen the blame attaching to a fault or offense, to defend or justify. It also releases someone from duty or requirement. Distraction, a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. A diversion, interruption, disturbance, interference or hindrance. Excuses and distractions have such damaging implications for us when we allow them to take control over our lives; they steal precious time and energy from all that we do daily.
Take Control – Quiet the Excuses
Ladies we have to take control of our lives by setting goals, having an action plan and do something each and every day to reach your goals. A dear daughter in the Lord, guided me in making a vision board. Well, guess what is hidden in my closet? And my goals, are lying dormant right next to my vision board. I’m no different than you. I’ve made more than enough excuses for why I haven’t completed my vision board or established set goals for my life. It’s because of all the distractions I have allowed to overtake my life and energy. I guess I keep waiting for that magic wand to appear and make everything fall into place, so I don’t have to put in the hard work and labor. But there is a glorious King who chose to stay focused.
When God created the universe He had a plan, with a set number of days to achieve His goal; and He did it without procrastinating. The earth was without form, void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. The first day was the evening and the morning. He called light day and darkness night. The evening and the morning were the second day. Then the evening and the morning were the third day. Then He made two great lights, the evening and morning the fourth day. Then the living creatures, birds and sea creatures became the evening and the morning was the fifth day. Then He brought forth things and beast of every kind and He also created man and this was the evening and morning of the sixth day. On the seventh day God rested. He had a plan, no excuses or distractions stopped Him from completing the world which was created for humans to reside in. (Genesis 1-2:1)
My dear friends, including myself, let’s stop making excuses by developing and action plan and following through with it. When distractions try to get in your way, seek God and pray. Remember that each and every day is one day we can either loose or gain depending on how you and I choose to use it. And no longer feel pity for those who make excuses – even yourself. The same authority the Lord use to create the universe He has given to us. How do I know? I’m glad you asked the question. Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”. We are created in His image and He also blessed us to be creative just as He was. (Genesis 1:26-28) Get busy start today. Get rid of the excuses – we have work to do.
