I Believe I Can Fly

I Believe I Can Fly - His Healing Hands

How many times have you watched birds fly without much effort or struggle? They have an innate ability to take off; this is what I would truly call a leap of faith. Birds have an undeniable sense of direction and many times you’ll see them flying solo.  It doesn’t matter the climate, nor the distance.  The agility of a bird is amazing.

There is a famous song, I Believe I Can Fly, which states,

I believe I can touch the sky.
I think about it every night and day,
spread my wings and fly away.
I believe I can soar,
see me walking through that open door.
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly.

What about you?

Life today has many challenges and if we would let them they would limit us in our ability to take a chance to fly. There is a person that I have come to know very well. She was raised in home that truly loved the Lord but there were secrets in the family which caused her to probably make many bad choices in her life. She was and still is a sweet loving person filled with joy, laughter and dreams yet to be fulfilled. But one day her uncle made an in appropriate advance towards her, which today we call incest. She became very fearful of him and any other man that tried to get to close.  This young girl also had a godfather who would sit around and exposed himself to her, she was just an innocent little girl. Then when she had her first boyfriend experience, what she thought was love caused her to become a rape victim. Because of fear she never told anyone and the secret stagnated her from soaring and believing she could fly.

These life behaviors cause her life to be impacted in such horrific ways, that it is only by the grace and love of God she has survived.  She finally realized that she needed help. As a Black African American woman, therapy wasn’t the norm but in order for her to become normal and fly she had to let go of her pride and get help.  This woman was working in ministry, loving everyone better than loving herself because her wings has been clipped as a child. Therapy brought back a strength she never knew existed. Truly what the devil meant for evil, God turned it around for her good.

This woman’s name is Yvonne, it’s me, your blogger. I’ve learned with the help of my heavenly Father, to fly again. My wings have been restored, with a sense of direction, no longer allowing the storms of life to take me off course, there’s no fear of flying solo.

You see,

I believe I can fly,
I believe I can touch the sky.
I think about it every night and day,
spread my wings and fly away.
I believe I can soar,
see me walking through that open door.
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly,
I believe I can fly.

and so can you.
